For more than half a century, AFROSAI has served as a cornerstone of financial transparency across Africa, focused on bolstering Supreme Audit Institutions and advancing the principles of sound public governance.
AFROSAI is an international organization bringing together African SAIs. It fosters cooperation, knowledge sharing and building independent institutions which safeguard sound financial governance.
AFROSAI is a cooperation platform that brings together Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) from 54 African countries in addition to the Court of Accounts of WAEMU. It fosters expertise sharing, building capacities and consolidating strong, independent and credible institutions. It is part of INTOSAI community.
AFROSAI was established in 1976 in Yaoundé, initially hosted by the SAI of Togo. In 2005, it reached a new milestone with the drafting of its first statutes and the creation of governance bodies. The same year witnessed the recognition of linguistic and institutional diversity of its members, cemented by the creation of linguistic sub-groups. The Secretariat-General was then transferred to Libya.
In 2008, AFROSAI adopted its first 2009-2011 strategic plan structured around four core priorities aimed at stepping up support for SAIs and catalyzing engagement within the international accountability community.
In 2012, the Organization’s headquarters was transferred to Yaoundé.
In 2013, the cooperation agreement with sister organization OLACEFS was signed. Since then, AFROSAI has broadened the scope of membership to sub-regional and continental institutions.
In 2022, it set in motion a major institutional reform that culminated in the recognition of three sub-regional organizations (AFROSAI-A, AFROSAI-E and CRFIAF) and the creation of two technical commissions (Institutional and Technical Capacity Building Commission and Organizational Capacity Building Commission).
In July 2025, the permanent headquarters was transferred to the Court of Accounts of Morocco, which has undertaken the Secretariat-General.
