Participation of the AFROSAI General Secretariat in the 22nd meeting of the Governing board and the 2026 annual strategic review of AFROSAI-E

Descriptif

The General Secretariat of AFROSAI participated in the proceedings of the 22nd annual meeting of the AFROSAI-E Governing Board, as well as the 2026 annual strategic review. These meetings were held from May 19 to 20, and May 21 to 22, 2026, respectively, in Monrovia, Liberia.

The Governing Board meetings were exclusively attended by the Auditors General of AFROSAI-E member SAIs or their representatives.

As for the days dedicated to the AFROSAI-E annual strategic review, they were marked by the opening of the sessions by His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia, as well as the presence of:

  • Her Excellency Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former President of the Republic of Liberia and 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate;
  • Mrs. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, President of the Senate;
  • Mr. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Minister of Finance and Development Planning of Liberia;
  • Mrs. Antoinette Monsio Sayeh, former Minister of Finance of Liberia and former Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund;
  • The meetings were also attended by the Auditor General of Sweden (Mrs. Christina Gellerbrant-Hagberg), as well as representatives from the SAI of the Netherlands, IDI, and NORAD (Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation). The SAI of Norway contributed remotely.

Key Highlights of the AFROSAI-E Annual Strategic Review:

  • Official Opening Ceremony.
  • Presentation of Strategic Results and progress achieved by AFROSAI-E at the regional level.
  • Experience-Sharing Presentations by SAIs on the theme: "Using data analytics to enhance audit impact: approaches, partnerships, and lessons learned from practice."
  • Panel Discussion on Data Analytics and Plenary Participation: An interactive discussion with panelists and the audience, providing SAIs with the opportunity to exchange views, experiences, and practical approaches regarding the following questions: Which skills should SAIs prioritize? How can the sustainability of initiatives and knowledge transfer be guaranteed? In what ways is data analytics transforming audit questions and the resulting conclusions?

  • Guest Speaker: Mrs. Antoinette Monsio Sayeh, former Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and former Minister of Finance of the Republic of Liberia.
  • Experience-Sharing Presentations by SAIs: Auditing public debt to strengthen accountability and fiscal sustainability: practical approaches and lessons learned from SAI experiences.
  • Roundtable on Public Debt Audit and Plenary Exchanges: An interactive discussion with panelists and the audience, giving SAIs the opportunity to exchange perspectives, experiences, and practical approaches on the following questions: In which areas can SAIs deliver the most value when auditing public debt? Which risks and weaknesses should public debt audits prioritize? How can public debt audit findings better inform budgetary decisions and strengthen accountability?
  • Summary of discussion outcomes and closing remarks.
