Strengthening Strategic Cooperation between AFROSAI and the African Union Commission

From 20 to 23 July 2026, a series of working meetings and exchanges was organized as part of the monitoring of the implementation of the Strategic Cooperation Framework between the African Organization of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI) and the African Union Commission (AUC).

Held in the form of a consultative workshop, these meetings provided an opportunity to assess the progress of joint actions, explore future cooperation prospects, and strengthen coordination between AFROSAI and the African Union Commission around shared priorities related to public governance, accountability, transparency, and sustainable development across the African continent.

The discussions focused on assessing the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, including its strategic objectives, the “Moonshot” concept, the progress made in ongoing initiatives, achievements recorded, and emerging trends. The exchanges also examined the potential role of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in supporting the achievement of Agenda 2063 ambitions through their audit missions, public policy evaluations, and contribution to good governance.

Participants discussed the perspectives of AFROSAI, African SAIs, and the African Union Commission in order to identify priority areas for cooperation and strengthen the contribution of audit institutions to achieving the continent’s development objectives.

A dedicated session addressed issues related to climate change, environmental governance, and audit methodologies adapted to climate-related challenges. Participants shared experiences and explored approaches enabling SAIs to strengthen their role in assessing public policies related to climate and sustainable development, in line with international auditing standards.

Within this framework, participants also benefited from a presentation by the High Commission for Planning (HCP) of the Kingdom of Morocco on the theme: “Reporting on Sustainable Development Agendas: The 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2063 in Morocco.” The presentation highlighted Morocco’s experience in monitoring, evaluating, and producing information related to international sustainable development commitments, as well as the mechanisms established to measure progress achieved.

The discussions also covered audit methodologies, the expectations of the African Union Commission, as well as the process of developing CAPAR and its main pillars. The experience of the Court of Accounts of the Kingdom of Morocco in climate change auditing was presented as a valuable source of knowledge sharing and good practices for African SAIs.

The meetings also provided an opportunity to discuss upcoming institutional milestones and major AFROSAI events, including the 63rd AFROSAI Steering Committee meeting, scheduled for the first week of November 2026 in Chad, as well as the celebration of the 50th anniversary of AFROSAI.

Through this consultative workshop, AFROSAI and the African Union Commission reaffirm their commitment to consolidating their strategic partnership and promoting strengthened cooperation towards more effective, transparent, and sustainable public governance in Africa.
